OK, so I find myself on FB more then my Blog, but I still like the idea of a blog so I thought I'd better visit and do an update.

What has been happening......Hans has gone off to school MIAD (Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design) and seems very happy. Doing art all day, how can he not be :-). We were empty nesters for about 1 1/2 hrs when we picked up our new exchange student in Green Bay on our way home from getting Hans settled in Milwaukee. Leang is from Thailand and is a sophmore and is on the JV soccer team. I'll post pictures too. Hope all is well with everyone out in Blogland.

In Sept. Steve and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and he bought us a new camera, here he is trying it out!

I finished Bjorn's quilt It is a split rail with pinwheel courners I had a lot of puckers with this one, so it was a bit frustrating, but from a distance it looks cool.went to a Beth Moore confrence in Green Bay, and yes she came right up by us, I could have reached out and touched her....but didn't :-))Here is Hans at MIAD

I spent all day today at DI. It was a bit different as I didn't have a team there but I was working it this time. I scored for one of the problems. Yes, I'm finally posting! Here are the two quilts I made to raffle off. These are themed for the international students. #9 is a USA theme and is a strip pattern. #10 is 8 in squares with embroidering on the boarder of names of countries. So now I'm thinking of what I want to do next!

Here they are Anders and Victoria on their wedding day. This is a picture I took and not the professional...couldn't tell could you! Ha. Was it worth 4 days of driving?? Only for the ones we love! The drive back was a bit hairy with an icy snow mixture from the middle of OK to most of MO. We wanted to drive right straight through but the weather had other plans. I am glad we arrived safely back home but wish we could have had more time with everyone in Texas. Now it is snowing here and very cold. This morning it was -15 with the windchill. Yikes!!

I'll put some more pictures on tomorrow, when I have more time...I'm really tired and need to get some rest.

Hummmm, ya we are to drive out early Wed. morning to Texas and there is a winter snow storm coming tonight and all day tomorrow. Should be fun, Yikes!!!! Aren't we lucky, it's snowing again and we have winter weather advisory until 6pm. I'm not sure how much we are to get but there is about 4 in. out there right now. I believe it's here to stay until spring. Thur. is suppose to be a high of 10. I wouldn't mind it so much if I could just stay at home curled up by the fireplace with a good book and a cup of hot cappuccino, or sewing on a quilt. Ooooohhhhhh that sounds sooooooo nice! We leave for Texas in a week, I hope that it isn't snowing next week. Have a great day, whatever you are doing and where ever you are!

It's fairyland again. This is what I woke up to this morning......so I guess winter is here now. I'm not too excited, but for now it is very pretty on the trees.

Our Beth Moore bible study concluded with soaking our feet in the bathtub as we talked about our week. Anyone who has done the "Stepping Up" study will understand. It was very relaxing.

I've finally finished Hans' quilt, this is for Christmas. I only have one more to get done now for a gift. I had a lot of problems and interruptions while doing this one, but I like the way the fabric worked with this pattern...I can't remember the name of this block. It looks better in real life, I'm not very good with the camera and our camera doesn't take the clearest pictures, but you get the general idea.

There was Great America, The museum of Science and Industry, IMax,The Shed, John Hancock and a bit of Michigan Ave. Plus a wonderful group of 21 students made it a great time!

I'm finally getting around to posting my Texas pictures, so here goes.....Anders and Victoria. We are all looking into the sun. I don't take the best pictures as you can tell. I stayed with the King's and that included the pets as well, I loved it! It was NOT boring, right Debra!

We've had a very fun weekend having a picnic at the park, walking, climbing the tower and then on Tue. for Alex's birthday we went to the Packer's practice and did the Lambeau Tour. What's not to like about a wedge of cheese on your head!

I was coming home from work yesterday and this is what I saw out on the bay, I had to stop and take a picture of it, it's a good thing too because when I went by a little while later they were gone. Yes these are Pelicans, they were quite big too. You can't tell from the picture, I don't have a camera that can do a very good close up, you'll just have to take my word for it. (side note: Pelicans are not native to WI)

So I spent the day with my friend Missy and we did some bumming around the Door, we ended up at another friends farm market...check out these beautiful berries!

Oh and if you want a good pie....try the Cherry rasberry at Schartners Farm Market, ya there's no picture of that since it disappeared pretty quick after I got home with it!
My flower bed in the back yard is nice and flush with greenery and weeds and I finally got some flowers planted. Good thing I didn't do it earlier or I would have lost them to frost, it's been soooooo cold.

Yes, summer has finally arrived. Today I could say it even feels a bit like summer. I think we have something like 75 as it is always cooler by the lake! I've enjoyed my first week off of school and have had the chance to do some laundry, cleaning and I've been to the Y and have started my next quilt project, with lots of reading on the back porch. This next week I hope to continue with the Y time and maybe get some home things organized, plus stamp some. I'd also love it if anyone would leave some feedback....I don't know if blogging is a good connection if I never hear from anyone? Have a great week....

Here is the results of my 1st lap quilt that my friend Cindy coached me through. It is a pattern call yellow brick road and I made it to match my living room colors. Being my first I didn't want to give it away encase it turned out real bad or ugly. Well I guess it turned out ok and it's snuggly not ugly! I like to be warm so it's a perfect match!

This here is my 2nd quilt, done in red, white and blue...I'll share more about this one later and who it will be going too. It was a bit more challenging but I'm happy with the way it turned out...now I'm going to take a bit of a break and then start my next one in June some time. Each of the kids will be getting one so they will be wedding and Christmas and Birthday gifts for this coming season.

Yes I know it's April and I have not updated this site for over a month. So I'll share with you some pictures from Spring break when I went down to Ocean Springs, Mississippi with a group of IntoEdventure international students to do some relief work. It was warm, lots of hard work, way to much driving but a lot of fun too!

Yes it's a bit chilly here, today is better. I think we may be in the plus today. Sunday it was -24 with the wind chill. We were cooler that Alaska and Russia. That's Wisconsin, and I get to live here!
OK, so congratulations to the New York Giants...it was a very interesting game with all the turn overs but in the end they made less mistakes and had a better game. You just can't go to that place of would have, should have, could have...or it will drive you crazy.
We also have about 5 more inches of snow....ahhhhhhhhhhhh. My arms are getting sore from all the shoveling!

Yes, we had a bit of snow over the holidays and this is Anders' little car covered. Tomorrow it is said to hit the 40's here so goodbye snow. Yesterday I saw Anders and Victoria off on their flight to Texas...they arrived safely without any delays. Janna is in Canada, right now visiting friends and is due back tomorrow...there is suppose to be fog so I hope there are no plane delays. I love the much needed brake from my busy life but now it is also good to get back to a schedule again. Hope your time with family and friends was precious.

Yes, I've finally updated. Sorry but things have been busy here with the holidays.
I finally sent out the Christmas/New Year's cards on Mon. I wanted to get a picture of the family but we had to wait until they all arrive home. Hope all is well with everyone and that your time of Christmas celebration was a special one with family and friends. Remember that Christ may have come as a baby but He grew up. Taking on all of our sins as He died on the cross. We have life in Him, through the blood he shed for us. Let us share that gift with one another.

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving...it's been awhile since I've had the time to make an entry and this one will be brief. I hope to work on Christmas cards this week and of course watch the Packer/Cowboy game on Thurday night. We were able to put up most of our Christmas decorations in the house this past weekend. I have to do it when I have the time so the tree is up but no lights or ornaments yet. Those will wait until Anders and Victoria come as well as some baking. They will have the time and I won't. Here's a cute picture of them from when I visited in Aug. at Fiesta Texas.

Amazing Appetizers

If your looking for some yummy appetizers try these.

Baked Vidalia Onion Dip:
2 Med. size sweet onions, such as Vidalias
1pkg (8oz; 2 cups) pre-shredded Swiss cheese
2 cups mayonnaise, preferably Hellmann's
1/4 tea. cayenne pepper or paprika
Tortilla or corn chips, for serving

1. Preheat the oven to 375
2. Chop the oions; you should have about 2 cups
3. Place the chopped onions and the Swiss cheese and mayonnaise in a large mixing bowl and stir to combine well. Transfer the onion mix to a 2-quart glass or ceramic casserole or baking dish and sprinkle the top with the cayenne/or paprika. Bake until the dip is golden brown and bubbling throughout, 22-25 minutes.
4. Serve the dip warm, right fromt he casserole, with chips. Serves 12-16 (makes 6 cups)

Aromatic Mushroom Galette:

1pkg (8oz.) refrigerated crescent rolls
2 cups(8oz) pre-sliced mushrooms
3 cloves garlic, crushed in a garlic press
2TAB olive oil, or butter, melted
1/2 cup pre-grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 tea. dried oregano
Salt

1.Preheat the oven to 375 F
2. Unwrap the crescent rolls and unroll the dough; you will have 8 triangles. Place an ungreased baking sheet or pizza stone on a work surface. Arrange the triangles of dough so that they form an 8-pointed star. The pointed tips should face away from the center of the star. Start by placing one triangle in the 12 o'clock position, one in the 6 o'clock position, one at the 3, and one at 9. Place the remaining 4 in the remaining empty spaces. The edges of the dough should overlap each other slightly, but there will be a hole in the center of the star. Using your fingertips, press down on the dough to seal the edges where they overlap. To fill the hole, press the base of each triangle toward the center until the hole is evenly covered with dough. Then, using your hand, press down on the dough so that it is flat, with no gaps.

3. Place the mushrooms, garlic, olive oil, 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, and the parsley and oregano in a mixing bowl, and stir to combine. Season with salt to taste. Spoon the mushroom filling into the center of the dough, then pull the tips of the dough up, and fold them over the filling to create a bundle. There will be gaps between the triangles of dough on top of the filling. Press down slightly on the bundle. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of cheese over the top of the galette. (I just sprinkled some on top, because this is alot of cheese!)

4. Bake the galette until the crust is deeply browned and the mushroom filling bubbles, 22-25 min. Remove the galette from the oven, run a metal spatula underneath to loosen it, then slice and serve warm. Serves 6-8

This is a project my son and a friend did this spring. They entered the Stuck at prom contest. You make your prom cloths out of duck tape. They didn't win but they had a lot of fun doing it, with friends and family pitching in to help. Photo taken by Scott Kirwen.

I really enjoyed watching the game today but never expected a shut out. Wow!! That was just so sweet to take in! Let's hope the rest of the season can go as smooth, although I'd like to have some nail bitters just to keep it interesting, all shut outs would be boring.

This looks so much better in real life. It's hard to tell that there is a saying at the bottom of the white piece and that it is done in greens.
